Biografia:

Roger Kynard Erickson, nascido em 15 de julho de 1947, em Dallas, Texas, EUA, ficou conhecido como frontman da badalada 13th Floor Elevators. Compôs "You're Gonna Miss Me", a canção mais popular da banda.

Ademais, sua voz febril e seu excelente desempenho como guitarrista outorgaram à 13th Floor Elevators uma manifesta supremacia. Essa influente banda separou-se, desordenadamente, em 1968, assim que Erickson começou a deixar de comparecer às apresentações agendadas. Preso por posse de drogas, fingiu ter alucinações, sendo então internado no Rusk State Hospital, próprio para infratores dementes. Recebendo alta em 1971, começou uma discreta carreira solo, gravando vários singles com um novo grupo, chamado Bleib Alien. Em 1980, assinou com a CBS Records, mas o disco daí resultante, "Roky Erickson And The Aliens", decepcionou, comprometendo sua aptidão para promover uma depurada e definida obra. Os seus álbuns subsequentes saíram por diversas gravadoras pequenas.

A qualidade também tem variado, condizente com a natureza volátil do seu excêntrico temperamento – continua alegando, por exemplo, que é um marciano. Sua música é influenciada por filmes de terror e ficção científica, e, quando está inspirado, Erickson é capaz de performances verdadeiramente poderosas.

Preso novamente em 1990 por furto de correspondência, os apuros de Erickson renderam o disco "Where The Pyramid Meets The Eye", lançado pela Sire Records, com dezenove artistas, incluindo R.E.M., Jesus And Mary Chain, ZZ Top e Butthole Surfers, interpretando suas músicas mais conhecidas; a renda obtida com a venda do álbum destinou-se a melhorar as condições do encarceramento de Erickson numa instituição prisional para doentes mentais.

Após ser liberado, o já grisalho músico gravou, em 1995, "All That May Do My Rhyme", e contra todas as expectativas de uma gravação aventureira efetuada por um náufrago do vício, o disco situa-se entre os seus melhores trabalhos. Como Syd Barrett, Erickson nunca pode conviver normalmente em nosso mundo cômodo e supostamente são, mas, ao contrário do ex-Pink Floyd, o ex-13th Floor Elevators ainda tenta, pelo menos, produzir material novo (nota minha: Roky Erickson morreu no dia 31 de maio de 2019, em Austin, TX, EUA, de causa não revelada) (The Encyclopedia Of Popular Music.
