Biografia:
A biografia da banda, que segue, em tradução livre do inglês, foi extraída do site Oldies, que, por sua vez, cita, como fonte primária do texto, a Encyclopedia Of Popular Music, de Colin Larkin (sob licença da editora Muze).
Formada em 1969, a Cactus original era composta por Rusty Day (nome verdadeiro: Russell Edward Davidson [nota minha: nascido em Detroit, Michigan, EUA, e falecido no dia 6 de março de 1982, em Longwood, Florida, EUA]; vocais), Jim McCarty ([nota minha: nascido no dia 1° de junho de 1945, em Detroit, Michigan, EUA]; guitarra, ex-Mitch Ryder e Buddy Mile's Express) e dois ex-membros da Vanilla Fudge, Tim Bogert (nascido no dia 27 de agosto de 1944, em Ridgefield, New Jersey, EUA; baixo) e Carmine Appice (nascido no dia 15 de dezembro de 1946, em Staten Island, New York, EUA; bateria). A marca do estimulante e intransigente hard rock da banda foi melhor exibida no seu segundo disco, "One Way... Or Another" (1971), mas disputas internas bloquearam o seu desenvolvimento. Day e McCarty saíram para juntar-se à Detroit, em 1971, mas, apesar de um reformulado lineup, com Werner Fritzschings (guitarra), Duane Hitchings (teclados) e Peter French (vocais), ter completado a parte ao vivo do álbum "Ot 'N' Sweaty", a seção rítmica inicial abandonou sua criação para fundar a Beck, Bogert And Appice.
Hitchings então concebeu a New Cactus Band, com Mike Pinera (nascido no dia 29 setembro de 1948, em Tampa, Flórida, EUA; guitarra, ex-Iron Butterfly), Roland Robinson ([nascido no ano de 1949, em Detroit, Michigan, EUA, e falecido no dia 11 de novembro de 2004, em Memphis, Tennessee, EUA]; baixo) e Jerry Norris (bateria), mas o grupo desintegrou-se em 1973.
Rusty Day, o primeiro cantor do grupo, reativou o nome Cactus no final dos anos 70 com a finalidade de excursionar, mas sua morte, por ferimentos à bala (nota minha: a morte do vocalista foi bem trágica, como informa a Wikipedia, em inglês), em 1982, acarretou a dissolução da banda. Appice, Bogert e McCarty reuniram-se mais de duas décadas depois, com o vocalista Jimmy Kunes, para gravar um novo álbum de estúdio.
