Biografia:

A biografia da banda, que segue, em tradução livre do inglês, foi extraída do site Oldies, que, por sua vez, cita, como fonte primária do texto, a Encyclopedia Of Popular Music, de Colin Larkin (sob licença da editora Muze). 

Formada em 1974 em São Francisco, Califórnia, EUA, a Kingfish tornou-se bastante popular na cidade, no final dos anos 70, graças às suas apresentações ao vivo. Matt Kelly (guitarra e vocais) e Chris Herold (bateria), membros fundadores da banda, trabalharam juntos pela primeira vez nos anos 60, na New Delhi River Band. Em 1968, os dois criaram a Horses, que gravou um disco para a White Whale Records. Bobby Hoddinot, guitarrista solo da Horses, uniu-se a Kelly e Herold em 1973, na Lonesome Janet, junto com o tecladista Nick Ward.

Quando o baixista Dave Torbert, ex-integrante dos grupos New Riders Of The Purple Sage e New Delhi Blues Band, incorporou-se ao lineup em 1974, a Lonesome Janet passou a chamar-se Kingfish. Com a morte de Ward em 1974, Bob Weir, guitarrista e vocalista da Grateful Dead, aproximou-se dos músicos remanescentes, aumentando a popularidade da banda da noite pro dia. O estilo do grupo era descontraído, bodegueiro, mas, internamente, mostrava-se desarmônico. Weir não durou muito tempo, e o quarteto restante gravou "Live 'N' Kickin'". Dave Perber (sic) substituiu Herold na gravação de "Trident", que também apresentou os recém-chegados Mike O'Neil (guitarra) e Barry Flast (teclados).

Perber (sic) então saiu, e Mark Neilson tornou-se o novo baterista. A Kingfish extinguiu-se oficialmente em 1979, embora Kelly e Flast tenham ressuscitado a banda durante os anos 80. "Kingfish" (1985) teve participação de John Lee Hooker e Mike Bloomfield, além de Bob Weir, que retomou sua parceria com o grupo, conquanto parcialmente. "Alive In Eighty Five" (nota minha: no original consta "Live From The Sweetwater", mas o Sweetwater Saloon, na Califórnia, é o nome do lugar onde o disco foi gravado, tão-somente) comprovou que o brilhantismo da banda ao vivo não desaparecera.
